12 Dates of Christmas (movie review)

I first saw this 2011 movie last year. I hadn’t been sure what to expect. I was only familiar with two cast members, Jayne Eastwood who plays Gloria in Haven (one of my favorite things) and Amy Smart. As far as I know, the only other thing I’ve seen her in is Rat Race, one of my guilty pleasures. Usually I don’t enjoy silly comedy, but I love that movie.

Turns out I also loved the 12 Dates of Christmas – so much that I gave it a five-star review on Netflix. After watching it again just now, I’m reminded why. A fan of movies like Groundhog Day (Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell), it’s always fun to imagine what you might do if you had to relive the same day over and over and over again.

This holiday romance didn’t disappoint. Kate Stanton starts out trying to make a somewhat selfish wish come true but by the time the credits started to roll, she’d learned some valuable lessons, figured out what was really important in life, and managed to help a few people along the way.

Now… What can I say about Mark-Paul Gosselaar – besides the fact that he’s totally swoon-worthy? Maybe that he’s also sweet, generous, patient, and everything else the ideal movie (and book!) hero should be.

Sounds like the perfect Christmas movie, doesn’t it? And I’m going to be doing my best to find even more perfect movies this holiday season … as I watch treasured favorites and look for new titles to add to that list. I’ll share the ones that make the cut as I find them.
