Today’s blog was going to be about honeymoons, something I wanted to write about after finding a Top Ten list of popular honeymoon sites. More specifically, after discovering that Hawaii was a distant third behind Disney World and Las Vegas.
Really?
Not that I have any desire to ever visit Hawaii (at least not until someone builds a bridge from the mainland to the islands). It just seemed like it should fall closer to number one than it did…which was tenth place. Hard to believe that a mouse with huge ears and slot machines won out over beautiful beaches and sunsets.
This looks like a lot of fun, but somehow lacks in the romance department.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve always thought the most romantic honeymoon would involve seclusion (preferably in a pretty little log cabin, nestled in the woods…on a private lake). Away from other people and life in general. A special time to get to know your new spouse, and to concentrate on one another instead of seeking out crowds and snazzy tourist attractions.
That’s what I was planning on writing about. However, I discovered very quickly that finding G-rated videos about honeymoons was like looking for the needle in the haystack.
I got so desperate, I even tried to find a comedy routine about honeymoons. Not much luck there, either. But I did come across this little gem about the first week after the wedding…
(Gonna be watching a few more of his videos when I’m finished here)
It finally hit me that it was a waste of my time to try to find videos depicting how special I believe a honeymoon should be, so I started looking for the ultimate wedding song (just my opinion), which was shot to pieces when the link wouldn’t work here. But if you take a moment to check it out, you’ll find that it’s The Wedding Song, sung by Paul Stookey, one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And the couple, whose wedding highlights are being shared, really seem to ‘get’ that they’re starting out on an incredible journey together.
Only I wanted a video you could watch here and went with the song that comes in a close second instead…
Okay, so my blog didn’t go exactly as planned today, although I still managed (somehow) to stick with the original theme.
Now…
I would like to know what everyone else thinks. What is your idea of a perfect honeymoon? Would Disney World or Vegas do it for you? A tropical island? New York City or Paris?
I wanted to go to Italy, but money dictated Hawaii. My brother in-law and his new wife just went to Disney world for their honeymoon. It was her idea. I don’t understand it, but the mouse seems to pull people in. I get it for other events, but honeymoons? To each their own.
I can imagine why Italy would have been a draw for you, but I agree. Disney would be great for a vacation but…a honeymoon? Lucky for the stockholders that everyone is not a clone of me. Not that I’d want that anyway. Be a really boring world if everyone was the same. Bungee jumping off a bridge after saying your I do’s wouldn’t work for me either, but at least one couple did exactly that. Yikes! 🙂
A tropical island has always topped the list for me. Lots of couple-only time without the distractions of a lot of touristy things. But then, I write romances, love beaches and sunsets.
It must be a romance writer thing. I just could not believe that Hawaii was in 10th place, while Vegas and Disney were nearer the top of the list. As far as I’m concerned a honeymoon requires three things…a bride, groom, and plenty of privacy. 🙂
