Slow, Deep Breaths…Pep Talk!

Okay, so if you saw the blog yesterday, you know I went to the NaNoWriMo Kickoff party and…

Yeah. I guess I’m going to give it a shot. I’d say I’m going to do it, but I’ve accepted the fact that my life is not my own a good deal of the time, and making that 50,000 word goal is all going to depend on…how many excuses I wind up making. Or (hopefully) not making. Because let me tell you, sometimes scrubbing a toilet, sweeping down cobwebs, or organizing an armoire I haven’t opened in six months seems a million times easier than writing a couple thousand words. (and can someone tell my WHY ‘armoire’ is always red-lined?)

Okay…so I have the story I want to work on, in addition to working on two other WIPs (works in progress, for my non-writer friends). That makes the total word count I want to write in November…like way too high!

I need the name of a great therapist please.

This pep talk isn’t going quite the way I planned, but that’s okay. Not much in life does, right?

Anyway, I’ll be posting periodic updates. Probably on Sundays. Only because it will make me feel accountable to someone. All right, all right. So I’m hoping it will humiliate me into staying on track.

Sigh…

There are several more episodes on YouTube. If you’re interested, click on the YouTube link in the lower right hand corner and you’ll see links along the right side of the screen.

All the best in taking this on, KK. You’re a trooper, for sure. Don’t think I could pull off that big a project, but I know you can. 🙂

  2. Your pep talks sounds way too much like the ones I try to give myself 🙂

I’ll be cheering you on. I’m doing NaNo sort of this year. I’m going to be a NaNo rebel (and I’m such a rebel that I don’t think I even qualify to sign up).

Kristy! See you on the NaNoWriMo website! YippEE.. Oh. err.. I also used ‘humiliated’ … on my NaNo bio page for in case I don’t finish!

    No kids, No job, husband self-sufficient – what excuse COULD I have for not finishing?? Ask me in 32 days! ;}

    • Hey, Emily! I’m still not 100% sure how the NaNo website works. I’m going to have to write down the ‘rules’ sometime today, and post them right in front of my face. So far the only thing I’m getting familiar with is the local group, and I’m strongly considering going to the Monday evening write-ins, except if I have to use the parking garage near the library, I might be too chicken to walk in that after dark. We’ll see, I guess. But I think it would be fun.

LOL…we should all make a list of the excuses we use in November. I know it’s going to be a pain Thanksgiving week. I like to do a lot of baking and preparation ahead of time so…I already have one excuse lined up. 🙂

Where are you on the website? Is there a general one for everyone involved?

I wanted to sign up, but with our trip right in the middle of the month I had concerns so I didn’t. Good luck! I’ll be cheering you on.

  5. ROFL!!! Pep talk didn’t turn out how you had planned. I hear ya. LOL!! But I am so proud of you for giving this a whirl. Squeee and I will be cheering you on every single Sunday so give it HELL girl!!!

BTW, there are so many words underlined in red now that are properly spelled that I don’t even pay attention likely leading to seriously misspellings but WHATEVER! LOL!!!

    Kick some NANO ass girl!

    • Thank you, Natalie. I will appreciate every single cheer. I’m actually hoping that I don’t drag this out for the entire 30 days. That’s like 1,667 words a day…and it really doesn’t take that long to write it (of course that’s if the story doesn’t grind to a halt in my head).

Yeah, gotta love spell and grammar check sometimes. I just love suggestions like changing were to was in sentences like, ‘My brother and his wife were planning to attend the costume ball.’ Oh buddy. My brother and his wife WAS planning to attend sounds SO much better, doesn’t it? 🙂

Good luck Kristy. I haven’t signed up for it myself.
