I’m ashamed to admit that until about a week ago, I’d never heard of Benedict Cumberbatch. No, it’s true. Can you believe that? It wasn’t until a friend posted the following video that he snagged my attention, beginning to win my heart at fifteen seconds in.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure the modesty was a put on, but it was put on so sweetly, and then he ran up into the audience to hug his fans. Uh-huh…research time.
To my delight – and disgust – he stars in a BBC series called Sherlock. Delight because it’s my new favorite series. Disgust because there are only three 90-minute episodes per year/season.
I almost didn’t start watching it because….three freaking episodes???!!! A year???!!!
But hey, he impressed me on The Graham Norton Show, and I was just bored enough, that I thought ‘why not?’
And I was, and remain, hooked…and I didn’t want to be. I get frustrated with shows that are only thirteen episodes per season (Haven, I miss you!), so I really didn’t want to get invested in one that was incredibly short. But I did, and I blame Tameri Etherton for posting the video that got me hooked on the actor.
Now I think I’m going to share my very favorite scene so far, and go back and watch the entire episode again.
***Just noting that while Mr. Cumberbatch now occupies a place in my heart, Keifer Sutherland, Bruce Willis, and Robert Downey Jr. all beat him there…and there they will stay.

Psst! Did you hear about my new secret group on Facebook? It’s so secret you won’t be able to find it no matter how hard you look. In fact, the only people who will find it are those who have subscribed to my newsletter (http://kristykjames.net/newsletter/), and who send me an email or Facebook message letting me know they’d like to join. That way I can send an email invitation.
Why a secret group? I thought it would be a fun place to just chat and get to know one another. Yes, I’m still a teenager at heart. I’ve always liked the secret clubhouse kind of thing. They always seemed so mysterious and exclusive.

Psst again. Did you know that you can get The Daddy Pact, Someday…Maybe, and The Romance Manifesto free at these fine online bookstores? Amazon.com, iTunes Bookstore, and Barnes & Noble. ***The Romance Mainifesto is no longer available at Amazon.com.***
I’m dying to see Star Trek! I can’t wait. I love Chris Pine. He was adorable in “This Means War” too.
I haven’t succumbed to Sherlock–yet, but my daughter has. Cumberpatch might just be the final straw that gets her to come see Star Trek with me. 🙂
I’m not sure how I missed your comment, Diana. I love Chris Pine, too, but the only things I’ve seen him in are the two Star Trek’s and Unstoppable…which I just love.
Did you get your daughter to go to the movie with you? 🙂
Love it! Did you see Star Trek yet? Even though he’s the villain, I still love him. And Rachel Funk Heller got me turned onto a BBC1 radio show staring Benedict. I kind of miss being able to see him, but the series is a riot and I can totally picture him in my mind.
I refuse to apologize for introducing you to Mr. Cumberbatch! In fact, I’m over the moon happy that you’re in love with him. He’s too fabulous not to be adored.
I did…and I loved it! I thought he made a perfect villain (but he makes a better Sherlock!). Hmm about BBC1 radio…where, exactly, do you find that?
And it’s okay. You don’t have to apologize. Finding Mr. Cumberbatch (I want to type cummerbund every time I write his name) has given me
manyseveral happy hours. The series is too short to have given me many anything…except pleasant fantasies. 😉They are available on iTunes. The show is called Cabin Pressure. I put them on my iPod and listen while I’m driving or hanging out in the backyard.
I’m hoping now that Star Trek is a smash success for him, he’ll do more movies or maybe another series that has more than three measly episodes a season. Seriously, what’s up with that?
