A Movie I Never Get Tired Of

Bet you thought I was going to say The Avengers, didn’t you? Well, you’d be right, but I think that continuing to extol the virtues of Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark/Iron Man that particular movie would be overkill at this point.

But, surprisingly enough, that isn’t the movie I’m thinking of tonight. The one I’m thinking of is lying on my desk as I write this, and if I watch it again, it will probably be the tenth time in the two years since my daughter’s affections moved from Zac Efron to…other guys.

17 Again

Yeah, I know. It kind of surprised me, too. But I was totally hooked after the first time, and it’s now my movie. It sits on the shelves closest to my desk so all I have to do is reach behind me and grab it whenever the mood strikes.

The plot? Mike O’Donnell, a basketball star, marries his pregnant high school sweetheart, giving up the chance to go to college…and maybe a sports career. Fast forward about eighteen years, and Mike is an unhappy man. Unhappy enough that his wife has had enough and is divorcing him. He has no relationship with his kids, hates his job, and wishes he could do it all over.

And suddenly he can. He steps into a shower thinking he looks like a middle-aged, slightly paunchy Matthew Perry – who stands about six feet tall…and steps out as a 5′ 8″ tall – but very buff – Zac Efron. Apparently you lose four inches when you go from being thirty-six to eighteen.

~~~
At first he thinks he’s been given a chance to make good on the dreams he’d given up, until he realizes his son is the target of the school bully – and his daughter is dating that same bully.
~~~

Zac Efron fan or not, I think he’s brilliant in this movie. To see fatherly reactions on the face of a high school kid is priceless (and he expresses those reactions so well). The rest of the cast is great, too, especially his longtime nerd buddy – turned rich computer guy, Thomas Lennon (Ned).

So if you’ve never seen it, and want to watch something that will make you laugh and smile, I highly recommend 17 Again. And now that I’ve told you about it, time to pop it in my computer, kick back, relax…and enjoy it. Again.

  1. I’m in! I loved the trailer ~ and I totally want that speeder bed. Well, and all those weapons/toys, too. Hmmm, I wonder what my husband would think? Oh who am I kidding? He’d be all over it! I need to check ebay. 😉

    I’m going to see if this is on Netflix streaming and watch it this afternoon. If not, it’s going into my queue!

      Let me know what you think after you see it. I just totally LOVE that movie. 🙂

      LOL about the toys. I kind of figured your hubby would be into those given how much he loves gaming. 🙂
