Another Quirky Movie You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

I’ve tried to figure out why I love movies few people have ever heard of, and I think I’ve finally found an answer. I just get tired of the same stuff all the time. Sure, movies that follow a formula can be – and often are – great, but I tend to enjoy those that are different even more.

Of course I’ve stumbled on more duds than I’ll ever be able to count, but every now and again, I find a real gem…and The Decoy Bride (2011) is a gem.

I don’t even know that I can explain why I enjoyed this movie so much. It didn’t hurt that it was set on the tiny, fictional Scottish isle of Hegg, or that I love Scottish accents. It also didn’t hurt that David Tennant was one of the stars.

Mostly though, it was a unique, oftentimes funny story about Katie (Kelly Macdonald) who has given up on love, who then falls in love with Tennant’s character…who happens to be on the island to marry his fiance (Alice Eve).

Throw in a cast of wonderful characters, an old, run down and filthy bathroom in the middle of nowhere, stunning scenery and … it just worked.

  1. Yes, you certainly found something I’ve never heard of. Although these days Kristy, I haven’t watched too many movies. This looks cool. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks! 🙂

I seem to go in streaks, Karen. I can go ages without watching anything at all, and then it’s like I just have to watch something…and Netflix has a wide variety to choose from. A whole bunch of movies most people have never heard of, so it allows me to nourish the weird part of me. 🙂

I enjoyed it, Karen…and if you watch it, I hope you do, too. I just enjoy things that are different. 🙂
