Gluten-Free Sucks is Live!

There are so many ways to deal with anger and insults that it would probably take me a month of Sundays to list them all. Fortunately, I have one choice that most people do not. I can send people to meet their maker, humiliate them, fire them from their jobs, burn their house to the ground, and cause the loves of their lives to dump them like so much garbage.

All on the pages of books, people. Just books.

I would never dream of doing these things in real life, but my writer’s brain usually kicks into high gear when I run into people who would make deserving victims in my stories. It’s much easier to knock a character off when you can imagine the face of the rude guy in the grocery store.

And what does any of this have to do with Gluten-Free Sucks, you might be wondering?

Well, quite simply, this novelette is a great way of dealing with rude people and their attitudes about gluten issues.

I find it offensive when some folks feel like they have the right to pass judgment on people they don’t know. If someone chooses to not replace gluten-containing foods with their gluten-free counterparts, I applaud them. I’d probably be better off nutritionally if I could stick to a diet of lean meats, fruits, and vegetables.

That doesn’t mean I want to though. And trust me, I don’t. I’m a firm believer in live and let live – so I’ll eat whatever I want, no matter who it offends.

So that’s one of the reasons I wrote Gluten-Free Sucks.

Then there’s the article that basically says those claiming to be gluten intolerant are manifesting symptoms because they want a food allergy.

Seriously?

I can manifest asthma-like symptoms and cause my feet and ankles to swell up until they hurt after I get glutened? Believe me when I say that was one time when I really, really wanted to smack someone upside the head to see if we could get the hamster moving in the right direction again.

And that’s another reason I wrote Gluten-Free Sucks.

But mostly I wrote this book for those who are newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease or a gluten-intolerance. It’s unfortunate, but they are going to run into a lot of people who claim to know what’s best for them … or who are ignorant clods who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.

Gluten-Free Sucks is for people like me. While we might have a health issue we can’t ignore, we don’t want it to change our lives anymore than it has to.

In other words, we want our cake – and we want to eat it, too. And we don’t want to be judged because we do.

I was originally going to make this book free across all platforms, but because of ranking concerns, I’m going to set the price at .99 cents.

However, I am going to assign a coupon code – BW64N – so anyone interested can download a free copy of Gluten-Free Sucks at Smashwords. It’s good for a year, at which point I will renew it and post the new one here and on Facebook.

For those who don’t know it, you can download copies of books in pretty much any format at Smashwords. And if I’m not mistaken, it doesn’t matter which country you’re in either.

If you have trouble getting it on your e-reader, just let me know. I have instructions for how to send it to your Kindle (thanks to Kathie J.). For all others, I’ll find out for you.

  1. Good for you Kristy! It’s not fair to judge others for what they eat. And I hate when someone tells you it’s in your mind? Hello? I find that it is necessary for some people to suffer from the malady in order for them to have compassion for another’s ailment or they just don’t get it. Sad, very sad.

Isn’t that the truth, Karen! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they got to experience what happens to me when I get glutened. Just for a week. Especially the ones who think it’s all in your mind. They make me want to shake them.
