I Need Your Help

After chatting with fellow author – and Mystic’s Carnival Collective partner in crime, Debra Kristi – I’ve decided to try to focus my blog again. Because my life has been so crazy for so long, it’s gotten to the place where I’m bouncing all over the place with a variety of subjects … and most have nothing to do with romance.

What to doPhoto credit: Morguefile.com

I am a romantic writer, for heaven’s sake!

So…

The tentative schedule is going to be:

Mondays: Story Time Shorts (explained below)
Wednesdays: Kristy’s Reviews (explained below)
Fridays: Song of the Week (explained below)

Kristy’s Reviews is pretty self-explanatory. I’m going to go back to doing reviews for romantic movies, and add romance novels, too. One week will be a movie, the next will be a book.

Song of the Week will be exactly that. One of the romantic songs I have on multiple playlists that I listen to when I’m writing and editing.

Now for the Story Time Shorts….

I’ve already posted about this on my Facebook page, but I’ll try to go into better detail here.

Since this blog is for you – current and future romance readers – I want to make this a romance-friendly place to visit. And I figure nothing will make it a place you want to spend time like giving you some control over the content.

Therefore, your wish is my command.

Tell me what you’d like to read. Give me a plot you’ve always wanted to see written, hero and heroine names, a few secondary characters if you wish, a few details … and I’ll write a short story for you (500 to 1000 words on average, although I’m thinking 2500 tops). Just keep in mind that if there are too many elements, I probably won’t be able to use them all.

I’ll try my hand at pretty much anything. Historical, fairies, slightly scary, inspirational, vampire, western. I will not, however, do erotica, satanic, or the stuff nightmares are made out of (violence, blood and gore, etc…).

Oh yeah. I’d like to give each reader credit for the idea, so let me know everything listed above, and how you’d like to be recognized. Your full name? First name and initial of your last name? All initials? A nickname?

Another ‘oh yeah.’ If I like some of the ideas well enough, I may try to develop them into full-length novels. And when I get enough of the shorts written, I’ll publish them in .99 cent short story collections for anyone who wants them – with credit going to the readers who made the suggestions.

Let me know in the comments section below what you’d like to read, or leave one on my Facebook page (<<< blue link here and above).

I don’t know about you, but I think this is going to be a lot of fun!

So Neal and Monet are the characters names. Situation Neal is in the military stationed overseas and to deal with his loneliness he sends out friend requests to acquaintances from his last duty station from a church that he really enjoyed attending. One of which is Monet, a girl he had seen at church but didn’t really know. Monet has a slight memory of him and only accepts the request because she see’s several of her friends are on his friends list.

Thanks, Shineka! Very interesting story concept.. Right now, yours is scheduled for two weeks from today. This story short should actually help me with another project on my to-be-written list for early 2015 – one that will deal with emails and messages. 😀

  2. I agree with Lynner. I really like the idea, as well, and it’s good for you, too, because it should keep the creative juices flowing! Okay, a story idea. The two characters names: Christina Hall and Randy Hanson. Randy and Christina lived in the same town, became friends, and found out they both had a passion for writing. They became extremely close, but since Randy was a teenager and Christina a handful of years older at the time…nothing more became of it. Fast forward 10-15 years and they re-meet after losing track of each other. Randy is now all-grown up and a popular author, and the relationship goes from friendship to something a bit more as they get reacquainted.

I’m glad some of you are liking this because I had a lot of fun writing the first one. I’m looking forward to figuring out how I can pack these elements into a short story. Thanks! Gonna give this some thought for a day or two and then get writing. 😀

I love it! I suggest on a romantic story about country singers. Who knows what goes on in those gigantic tour buses when they’re traveling the 50 states? The rivalries to get that CMA award? I mean c’mon we all know country men are the hottest .. ok i’m a huge fan of Blake and Luke (whew! is it just me or did it get hotter in here) ….and I’ve always loved Reba and Dolly and Loretta. because I’m a coal miners daughter as well 😉
    Anyway good luck to you!

Thanks very much, Lynn! I will give this my best shot and we’ll see what the results are on Wednesday. 🙂
