PSA: Attention All Readers

After contacting Amazon and asking them to add ***SPOILER ALERT*** to a review that gave away the plot in one of my books, I received the following response…

Hello Kristy,

I hope this email finds you well. This is Aileen from the Communities Team.

I understand your concern that you want to have a “Spoiler Alert” on the review submitted on your book. Spoilers are no longer considered a violation of our posted guidelines. I have passed your message along to the team involved with future development of our Communities features. I know they will want to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Here’s a link to our review guidelines for future reference:

I hope this helps! We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best regards,
Aileen S.

I’ve not yet discovered how to contact this team Aileen S. mentions, but when I do, I hope you’ll all join me in slamming Amazon with complaints. Not only do spoiler reviews hurt the authors who work so hard to write interesting stories, they also ruin surprises that readers want to discover for themselves.

I’ll share the contact information when I get it, but thought you might appreciate a heads up about the new policy. For me, all I’ll be checking are the star ratings until they change the policy back.

Amazon, I’m so disappointed in you. 🙁
