Merry Christmas! (yes, I’m one of ‘those’ people)

Any other year, I’d say the crazy will be arriving in my house as soon as I wake up in the morning. However, this year, it arrived on Monday – with the dreaded call to a ‘rooter’ man to come and clean a clogged pipe so things would stop backing up in the bathtub (major ick, yuck, and eww there). It had been acting up off and on since October and with Christmas fast approaching (at about a million miles an hour), I’d had enough. It needed to be taken care of once and for all. And by mid-afternoon on Tuesday, it was.

But the crazy didn’t stop there. In the middle of all of that was the release of my newest book, #7 in the Coach’s Boys series. The long-requested, long-awaited story for Ed.

Ed's cover-smallCurrently available at Amazon and Smashwords.

And then, to make life a little more interesting, I’d put off a chore I’m not terribly fond of … gift wrapping. And I mean there was nothing under the tree as of five hours ago. Oh yeah. Let’s not forget the panicked, midnight trip to one of the local 24-hour stores for some gifts I still needed – because a midnight trip seemed preferable to going to any store on Christmas Eve morning, afternoon, or evening.

Then, in the middle of all that wrapping, I realized the puppies somehow managed to have an accident on the edge of the blanket we use to cover their kennels while we’re sleeping – because if we don’t, they can see the cats. And if they see the cats, they will bark. And bark, and bark, and bark, and bark, and… Well you get the picture. So we’ve learned in the three weeks we’ve had them (or maybe it’s just been a very long two weeks) that if we want to sleep, we cover the kennels.

Oops. Got a little off topic there. So… The blanket had to be washed and is now in the dryer. I want to be sleeping, but I have to wait until it’s dry so we can sort of hide the cats. And I’m hoping it dries soon because tomorrow I have to bake a cake and make gluten-free sausage/cheese muffins for a party, give the house a quick sweep and mop, shower, and get ready to spend some quality time with my mother, siblings, and their families.

Do you want to know something though? Even with the extra ‘excitement’ thrown in this year, I still love Christmas. Except for the wrapping part. I’ll probably never like wrapping gifts, but I’ll do it because I love giving gifts. And I’m looking forward to seeing family, enjoying good food … and eventually getting some sleep tonight.

But I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah/Kwanzaa, or whatever else it is you might celebrate. And if you don’t celebrate anything, I hope you enjoy a well-deserved day off work. 🙂

And now I’ll leave you with one of my favorite carols…

I managed to get them all wrapped and under the tree without having one melt down. Aren’t you proud of me? Yes, my hubby did bribe our daughter into helping him wrap his gifts…the rat. Next year I think you and I should do the dreaded wrapping together. We can cheer one another on between glasses of wine, or eggnog or hot cocoa.

So did I, Shelley … amazingly enough! And yes, I am proud of you. LOL about the hubby. Men, right? I like that idea for next year. Maybe we can make a pact to get them done a lot earlier than we did this year. You let me know when you’re ready and I’ll get started on mine. I’m always up for a challenge. Not so sure about the wine, lol. It would probably put me right to sleep … but hot cocoa? Oh yeah! 🙂
