Getting Fit, Week 2

Week two? Yeah, I know. It’s actually closer to three, but I’ve been working on Fin’s story and lost track of time.

Honestly, it’s also been a rather weird couple of weeks. The weekend after my first post, I wound up out of town and babysitting Aria for parts of two days – and I loved it. But being out of town is always difficult when it comes to the whole gluten-free thing. As in it’s a major pain to find foods I can eat safely.

For one of those three days, I had a small protein drink, a small order of french fries, a Yoplait Greek Whips yogurt, and about a quarter of a cup of cottage cheese – for the entire day. Not cool. The rest of the days – before and since – I’ve definitely had more calories, but I haven’t been good about counting them. I also got glutened, which means … water retention – a lot of it.

I have been doing better about moving, doing some stretches and trying to get up at least every hour and walk or march in place for a while. I even bought a step counter, which I’ve remembered to wear exactly twice.

Amazingly enough. I’ve lost about seven pounds, though I know part of that was water weight from the gluten so it’s not really accurate. It is, however, motivating.

So what’s on the agenda for the next week or two? I’m actually planning meals before I go grocery shopping again. I’m terrible about not having a clue what to eat because I tend to pick up a few things here and there without much thought to actual meal preparation.

I’m also going to take the time to mix up the ingredients for the homemade high protein breakfast shake mix I bought before my weekend out of town (like at least eleven days ago). I don’t usually have such low calorie days as the example in the second paragraph, but I often just don’t eat because nothing sounds good. At least with the mix on hand, all I have to do is add cold water, give it a stir, and I’ll have a few calories and some nutrition. And … it’s going to be chocolate so win/win all the way around. 😀

And I really will start using the treadmill again this week. I keep getting distracted by the writing. However, I was reminded again this week that when I get up and move – even if it’s marching in place for fifty steps beside my desk – I feel better. For whatever reason, it makes me more alert and I’m more productive with the writing. Adding the treadmill every day can only help that.

So that’s about it for my update. How are the rest of you doing?

Hi Kristy. Everything is going good on my end. My husband and I are getting ready to go camping this weekend. One last time with the camper before we put it away for the winter. bummer! Anyway, I can relate as far as exercise. I rode my bicycle to work on the 4th of July, vowing that I would go for bike rides on my lunch hour. As of today, I’ve taken it out for a ride, twice! Just can’t seem to get motivated. Hopefully, this too shall pass. I work in a newspaper office and sit at a desk all day. I try to get up and move around just to keep the legs from cramping up! Urg!!!!
    Have a great day!

Denise… Have fun this weekend! Camping in the fall is the best time (my opinion). It’s not too hot or too cold – and hopefully much of the bug population is gone. 😀

It’s a lot easier to make plans to get healthier and fit than it is to actually do them, isn’t it? I still haven’t gotten on the treadmill and I’ve been doing worse at getting up every half hour too, so you’re definitely not alone there.

It’s good that you’re getting up and moving around to avoid the cramps. LOL – that’s my motivation sometimes too! What shocked me is how much more productive I am when I’m consistent about it. Surprisingly, it also helps to combat the thyroid related fatigue. So I’m all for getting up once or twice an hour. Not sure whether you can get it on your work computer or not, but there’s a free countdown timer that resets itself that I absolutely love. Whether it’s 30 or 60 minutes, every time it goes off and I click okay, it starts back at the original time (if I set it to repeat). If you explain to your boss that it makes you more productive, he or she might have it installed on everyone’s computers. 😀

Take care – and have a great weekend!

      Kristy
