Deadlines and Dust Bunnies

And authors who choose to participate, especially those who live in the United States and celebrate Thanksgiving, just have to suck it up and figure out how to participate – while giving their homes a thorough cleaning in anticipation of the holidays.

Yes, folks, I’ve once again signed up to write an entire 50,000 word first draft this year. It’s going to be the second book in the Double M series. I’m also going to be editing the final installment in the Casteloria series so it will be available in time for Christmas.

I was hoping the Coach’s Boys prequel would be ready for the holidays too but there are some plot holes that need to be addressed – and I just don’t have enough time to figure out what they are or how to fix them right now. So … I’m hoping for a February release instead.

Until then, I’m just going to finish Fin’s story so I can get that ready in November. And I’m not going to worry too much about dust bunnies or cobwebs – or anything else until I type ‘the end.’ Okay, so you all know I never type ‘the end.’ Still… He comes ahead of any other project for the time being.

It’s kind of fun right though, and I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned over the past week for NaNo (my pet name for NaNoWriMo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month). I’ve discovered that finding other authors who have time for and/or enjoy writing sprints (writing as much as possible – with a time limit) isn’t that easy.

We probably all know by now that I’m a huge fan of The Avengers…

Unlike Tony Stark, I’m not volatile (unless shopping for groceries), and I’m not very self-absorbed. And I do play well with others. But for writing sprints, I guess all I need is my countdown timer and I can play very well all on my own. I’ve been pleased with some of the results of my solitary sprints the past few days – and hope I can make this work while writing Steven’s book in a few days.

Wish me luck! 🙂

  1. Good luck on NaNaWriMo. Every year I do it, the kids get sick, so I don’t dare do it anymore. 🙂

What is the policy with affiliate links? This is only if you signed up to get money for every time someone clicks your link and buys something in Amazon, right? I want to make sure I understand it right.

LOL. I think that would put me off doing NaNo too. Not worth kids getting sick. You’re productive enough though so I don’t think you need the extra push!

I don’t understand the affiliate stuff as much as some people do. I was just encouraged to put the links for my books here, on my books page, and in the links for my books in the back matter of my other books. I do know that if you do it, you have to let people know that you’re complying with FTC rules to notify them (before you share a link to a book). Time will tell whether it’s worth the hassle of remembering to do it or not. 😀
