Alone In a Cabin With Two Strange Men – For a Month

Yup. For the second July in a row, I’m going to be spending the entire month of July holed up in a small cabin with two men I’ve never met in person before.

Sounds like the plot for an R-rated movie, doesn’t it? But it’s actually quite proper. You see, it’s a virtual cabin located on the lovely cyber grounds of Camp NaNoWriMo. If it were real, this is kind of how I imagine it would be…

And this would be my room…

There would be a desk in the corner you can’t see, complete with a laptop computer – except I would have a regular (cordless) keyboard and mouse for it. If I’m going to be typing on it for a solid month, I’m going to do so in comfort. The windows would be closed during the day so I could enjoy the air conditioning while writing – but open at night so I could listen to the bubbling brook a hundred yards or so away from the cabin. Yeah, in my mind, this is the perfect writer’s retreat.

Camp NaNoWriMo is a little more laid back than the regular NaNoWriMo, which is held each November and ‘requires’ a 50,000 word in 30 days commitment. For this, we can pretty much set our own goals and after careful consideration, I’ve decided what those goals are:

  1. Finish the first draft of Kelly O’Hara’s book (and hopefully, figure out a title)
  2. Finish the first draft of the Enza prequel (already have a title, yay!)
  3. Work on Steven’s book (2nd in the Double M series) with any time leftover

Of course, the whole ‘best laid plans’ factor is always in play and might affect my goals. I am pretty motivated though, and reminding myself that I did something like 82,000 words during the first NaNoWriMo event I participated in – and I did it taking a week or so off after finishing the first 50,000 words in 12 days.

I’m not going to set my sites on that many words for July, but I am looking forward to seeing exactly how much I’ll be able to get done – and I hope you’ll be in my corner, rooting for me and my cabin mates. 🙂

I’ll be adding a progress widget to the sidebar in my blog to keep track of my progress.
