Writing Updates

typewriter-desk - pixababy free photoAnyone who’s followed me for any length of time might have heard me mention that I’d love to figure out how to work on two books at a time. Why? Because when I get stuck on one story, I could move to the other and write there until I figure out what I need to do in the first. You might have also noticed the progress bars on most of the pages of my website. The NaNoWriMo bar is kind of a combination of projects for July, just for motivational purposes.

But there are four more bars.

Yes, folks, I’m working on four books. Technically, five because I’m doing some more editing on Enza.

How is this working out for me, you might ask?

Very nicely, for the most part, thank you very much.

Steven’s book is still giving me fits. At this point, he seems to be the Jon Rambo (Coach’s Boys) of the Double M series. Jon’s book drove me nuts because sweetheart that he is, he fought me every step of the way to get his story told. Steven seems to consider Jon his hero… But as before, I will prevail.

The Enza prequel… That’s coming along nicely, but it’s also the reason I’m editing Enza itself again. I’d wanted to just read it to get my head firmly back in the early 1900s. Turns out though that I’ve learned a lot over the past several years and I decided to apply some of that to the original book.

Kelly O’Hara’s? I’m fairly sure he, Jon, and Steven have a secret club where they meet to discuss ways to drive me crazy. Again though, I’m determined. It took a while to figure out why Susan (Wendy’s sister from Holding Out For Love) has some … issues, but once I did, things started falling into place. As with a few other books, I had to skip ahead to write a few scenes later in the story. Sometimes, it seems I have to know what happens later in order to figure out what happens first. Confused? Yeah. Me too. 🙂

And finally, Weko 1. That’s just the working title for the first book in the Weko Harbor series (Weko is pronounced Way-co).

This wasn’t supposed to be the first book in the series. Nope. I’d already written part of what I’d planned to be the first book. Then, thanks to a suggestion I made to Ruth Ann Nordin – one she couldn’t use, boom! A light bulb went off. I could use the idea. In fact, I could have a whole lot of fun with the idea. And I have been. I’m flying by the seat of my pants because I don’t have an outline, just a few vague ideas, but it’s turning out to be one of the easiest stories I’ve ever written. At least so far. We’ll see what happens a few more chapters in.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at with the writing. I hope to have two first drafts finished by the end of Camp NaNoWriMo (July 31st), with the other two finished by the end of August.

It hasn’t been easy to get used to writing with a baby in the house again, but I’m getting there. And I’ve got some lost time to make up for.

***Side note on the photo above – I’m pretty sure I had an electric typewrite that looked very much like this one when I was a kid.
