Heartbleed Internet Bug

Might want to start changing your passwords. Mashable is calling the Heartbleed Bug “one of the biggest security threats the Internet has ever seen.”

Shocked face

Affected sites I’m aware of at this point are: Yahoo, Gmail, Netflix, Smashwords, DropBox (which seriously freaked me out!), Pinterest, and TurboTax (which should freak a LOT of people out).

I know I’m very concerned about it – and will be spending the rest of the evening using a password generator to change every password I have. I just wish I didn’t have so many, but I use a different one for each account.

To clarify here, I am NOT using the passwords exactly as generated. I am taking parts of several to come up with secure passwords that are roughly 30 characters long – combinations of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, symbols, and punctuation.

To further clarify, I am keeping meticulous records for what password goes where because, as someone once said, “The best password is one you can’t remember.” And believe me, I wouldn’t be able to remember these passwords to save my life.

I’m also going to create a password master list, hopefully with at least 50 different passwords, so I can do what is recommended and change them all every few months.

Anyway, this is my PSA for the day. Hope none of you were affected.

Yes, and encrypt that file with all your passwords. Of course, that means you’ll have to remember one password. 😉

    Technology is crazy!

Thanks for the reminder. And I absolutely will do that. I can’t remember another virus, worm, or whatever else they’re called shaking me up as much as this one did.
