James Bond, Jimmy Stewart, and Angus MacGyver

I’ve never made a secret of the fact that I tend to have issues with insomnia. I’ve been averaging about four and a half hours of sleep out of every twenty-four for the past few weeks. While it’s a major pain in many areas, it also leads to some interesting…and amusing experiences.

For instance, I started reading Colin Falconer’s latest blog  about an hour ago (it might have been a lot longer ago than that). He wrote about Ian Flemming’s inspiration behind the James Bond series. Toward the end, he shared a video from a Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall movie, with someone named Hoagy Carmichael singing. I’d heard the name, but wasn’t sure who it was. That sent me to Google…and I was off and running, flitting from site to site like a child trying to decide which candy bar he wants.

Mr. Carmichael led to Humphrey Bogart, who led to Spencer Tracey, which sent me on a few more detours, before I landed on a site with Jimmy Stewart’s wedding and family photos, along with shots from some of his movies…including Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.

Of course that sent me to IMDB to find out what that was all about, which in turn sent me to Amazon.com to see if the movie was still available. It is. In fact, I can even rent it…and I will…because it looks really cute. Besides, who didn’t love Jimmy Stewart in It’s a Wonderful Life?

Of course the first thing I saw at IMDB is that there is a trailer for Ironman 3.

YES!!! Happy Birthday to me! Okay, so it comes out the day after, but it’s close enough, and I’m claiming it as my personal gift.

Anyway, that’s how I’ve spent my sleepless hours tonight. Well…there was one more stop at YouTube partway through my wanderings. As soon as I read where Spencer Tracey called Humphrey Bogart ‘Bogie’ the the night before he died, I was reminded of a song I really like…

And in case you didn’t notice, I got a bonus in that video. Andy Gibb… It’s been a really fun couple of hours. 🙂

Oops. Almost forgot. I put Angus MacGyver in the title, didn’t I? Why? Because, when I was looking at the cast list for Mr. Hobbs, I saw an actor named John McGiver, which brought to mind MacGyver…and I wondered if his first name might be John. It’s not. It’s Angus…

Loved MacGyver! Had no idea his name was Angus. Perfect. Also, love the new digs. Congrats on the move, Kristy!

Hi, Debra! Me, too! I loved MacGyver, too. It’s because of him I always have a roll of duct tape in the house. 🙂

And thanks. I’m extremely happy with at my new address…thanks to Laird Sapir. There were a few things I could not change to save my life…and she stepped in and saved me the cost of a new monitor and hair transplant. 🙂

  2. Happy birthday! And congrats on the new bloggy! And should I tell you that the very first concert I ever saw was Andy Gibb? It’s true.

Love is higher than a mountain. Love is thicker than water.

    Thicker than water?

    Yuck.

And yet it worked for me.

Okay…my response disappeared. Thanks for the birthday wishes, but it’s not until next month – the day before The Avengers hits the theaters (and it BETTER be coming to a theater near me, lol).

How lucky were you to see a concert with Andy Gibb?! Although you’re right…thicker than water? That brings to mind all sorts of icky thoughts. I did a post on ‘meatloaf Jello’ awhile back…and that’s exactly what came to mind just now. 🙂
