Sleep-Writing

Okay, so technically I’m awake … but just barely. As near as I can determine, I’ve had roughly eleven hours sleep out of the last seventy-two, and most of it has been thirty minutes here, two hours there (if I’m very lucky).

Why? Because I’ve been sick for close to two weeks now. I was thinking just allergies for the first few days, and then worse allergies when I started sneezing more than I do during the fall allergy season. I finally wound up at my new doctor’s office Monday afternoon with a throat raw from near constant coughing, ears that hurt like blazes, and a nose that never wants another tissue to come near it. (my fifth box of Puffs is almost gone, if that tells you anything)

The verdict? Infection in both ears, along with a bacterial infection (one of two nasty ones making the rounds in this area). Surprisingly enough, my lungs are clear so I don’t have a clue where the coughing is coming from.

What does that mean for me? Antibiotics, Benadryl, and plenty of ibuprofen. And still not much sleep. It means my throat is miserably sore (the main reason for the ibuprofen, although the 102/103 fever is another one). It means that Rudolph better watch his step – because I could take over his job as lead reindeer if he doesn’t. And it means my ribcage past ready for the coughing to end.

Mostly, though, I just want to catch up on some sleep. I mean several hours in a row – without waking up a dozen or more times to use a tissue or sit up to cough. I’m not sure why, but it’s surprisingly hard to cough when you’re lying down.

So I’m behind on everything. Facebook, the blog, my house, editing. The only thing I’m looking forward to is 3:15 a.m. I can take more Benadryl and ibuprofen … and then maybe by 4:00, I’ll get a couple more hours sleep.

Pharmaceutical companies need to come up with an antibiotic where you only need to take one tablet. Oh yeah. And it needs to work within ten minutes of swallowing it. I mean whatever you took it for needs to be gone.

On a bright note, I LOVE my new doctor. While there, I told him what I’d like to do about my hypothyroidism, which medicine I want to try, and where I would like to see my TSH and T3/T4 levels … and he’s totally on board with that. In fact, he prefers using Armour Thyroid (YAY!!!!), and he totally agrees that a TSH level of 1 or less is the optimal level, with the T3/T4 as high as they can be.

I can’t wait until my next appointment. First, I have to get my blood test done, and I can’t do that until I’m feeling better than this. There’s no way I’m going to sit in the waiting room coughing incessantly, and holding a box of tissues and a plastic grocery bag. Yeah, not happening.

So anyway… If you haven’t seen me around much, this is way. After almost two weeks, I’ve turned into a whiner and a baby. I am not, however, this bad…

    1. Thanks so much! While it’s not as speedy as I would like, things have improved today. Nowhere near as much coughing and sneezing, thank goodness. And thanks about the doctor. I’m actually excited seeing him early next month…even though it means a blood test, lol.

Good idea about the juice. I’ve mostly been drinking water, but now that I see this…I need some OJ. 🙂
