The Definition of a Hero

One of Webster’s definitions for hero is: a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.

I think that perfectly describes many, many soldiers throughout the world. Living in the USA, I’m especially proud of, and thankful for, those who serve(d) in our armed forces, past, present, and future.

Since so many others can say it much more eloquently than I can, I’m just going to share a few videos in honor of our military and the United States of America.

This first song is performed by a fairly new group called Madison Rising. It makes me want to jump to my feet, crank the volume up, slap my hand over my heart, and start singing along at the top of my lungs. Why? For one thing, because it’s a very cool rendition, but also because when I hear it, I remember that the only reason our flag still flies is because of the sacrifices of the men and women who fought for it.

The next one doesn’t need any explanation. None at all…

The next ones were really hard to not only choose, but to watch. They always make me cry, but I think it’s good to have visual reminders of the sacrifices the families of our soldiers make, too.
