Welcome To the 21st Century, Kristy K. James

Since taking my daughter and the baby home on July 13th, I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to do video chats so she doesn’t forget about me. I’ve looked at countless phones that fit into my budget and most had less than a 4-star rating, especially for video and camera quality – not to mention there’s just something about paying hundreds of dollars for a phone I can’t wrap my head around yet.

So I started looking in another direction – web cameras for my computer. That sounded even better because I wouldn’t be looking at Aria in a screen almost smaller than my toothbrush. Okay, so maybe not quite that small…

And I bought one. My first webcam with a microphone.

It was delivered this afternoon … and I didn’t even want to open the box for a few hours. And then I did, and the camera and cord set on my desk – untouched – until about 11:30 tonight. Most reviewers said it was super easy to set up while others said it was not. I just kind of figured I’d be one of the people that would have problems, but then decided what the heck.

I was wrong. It was installed and working in under ten minutes (probably more like five), then I downloaded a video chat thing, added my daughter and chatted with her and the baby who has forgotten me … in ten days!

She was, however, still fascinated with the index card notes fastened to the top part of my desk. When she was here, she would look at them forever as they swayed in the breeze from the fan.

2Stop! 6-4This was her about a month and a half ago – and it was exactly what she seemed to be saying tonight … enough already – STOP!

It’s a good thing I miss her so much I’ve decided to drive over every other week from now on. I’ll do the video calls as soon as I get home, and then for at least a few minutes every day after that. She won’t forget me again. 😀

  1. I wish my mom had been alive when my kids were born. It would have been so great to have her around, and the kids would have loved it. I’m sure your daughter and granddaughter love it. 😀 You’re an awesome grandma!

Dang. Have I lost track of time this month. I’d like to blame it on Camp NaNoWriMo – so I will! Been trying hard to finish a project before the clock rings in August 1st. 😀

I was very lucky to grow up with my maternal grandparents (was never close to my dad’s parents). They were great grandparents and I miss them every day. And thank you. I’m trying to be. 🙂 I have to tell you, I am having such fun with that baby – when I see her – which will be every two weeks now because even with the video camera, it’s not the same as being there and being able to hold her. But at least now she won’t forget me between visits.
