World War Z

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a gutless wonder. The wrong movie trailer at the right moment will literally give me nightmares. And so I avoid scary movies and stories like the plague.

Usually.

But when I saw that World War Z was on Netflix tonight, I was torn. Zombies vs Brad Pitt…

While I’m not ‘in love’ with him, he is very pretty to look at, and I have enjoyed some of his movies. Legends of the Fall was great, and Ocean’s Eleven was just flat out fun. (looking through the list at IMDB, I guess these are the only Brad Pitt movies I’ve ever watched)

But back to my conundrum.

Was swooning over a cute actor really worth the bad dreams that might follow? Time for some research to see just how scary it might be. Well, I also needed to find out what the gross-out factor was. If I would be spending the bulk of two hours hiding my eyes, there really wasn’t much point in turning it on.

When it passed both hurdles, I threw caution to the wind and hit ‘play.’ And was it ever worth it. Talk about an adrenalin rush from start to finish!

I was ready to stand up and shout a few times, pleased when I figured out a key point in the movie less than halfway in, and almost cheered when the solution was discovered. The only thing that kept me quiet was my son would probably have thought another mouse got in the house, and that’s all he would be talking about for days. (then I really would have a nightmare)

So if you’ve avoided watching the movie for fear you’ll either need the equivalent of an airsick bag, or because you’ll be afraid to turn the light off afterward, don’t worry about either of those things. Take it from a weak-stomached fellow chicken. It’s really good. So good, in fact, that I just may watch it again before the night is over.

  1. Not a Brad Pitt fan at all though I have seen some of his movies..but not a zombie fan either so not seen this one. Have you not ever seen Thelma and Louis? He was young in that one but he was in it…lol.

I am not a huge Brad Pitt fan, not like Bruce Willis or RDJ, but the few things I’ve seen him in, I’ve enjoyed. He’s a good actor, and World War Z isn’t like I imagined most zombie movies to be. I’ve now seen it (hanging head in shame) three times this week. Or should I say in the past four days? Yup. There were too many things I knew I’d missed while processing other bits of the movie… Okay, okay. So I just liked it. A lot. 😀

I think I might have watched part of Thelma and Louise once, but I’ve never seen the whole movie. Just three – well four if you count Ocean’s Twelve, which I do not because that was just kind of weird. 😀

But this movie is basically like any disaster movie, only better than most. If you can handle looking at the posters of the human body showing our muscles (under the skin) in doctor’s offices, you should be okay with this one…and the zombies are not as bad as the posters at my doctor’s office. There really is no gore. Yay! 🙂
